Group for Teens to Explore Emotions with Comedy

Finding the Funny: Using Comedy to Explore Emotions

Who

Students from 7th to 12th grade who are curious about using humor as a way to express themselves, process feelings, and connect with others. This group is appropriate for youth navigating stress, anxiety, or social challenges who enjoy creative expression and want to build confidence in a supportive, playful space.

What

Participants will engage in a mix of guided comedy writing, group sharing, and improv activities to explore emotions and learn to cope with new experiences. Each session will focus on a theme co-determined by group members and therapist (e.g., self-image, friendships, family dynamics, resilience) and use humor to approach it from multiple angles. Teens will learn comedic techniques such as storytelling, exaggeration, character work, and joke timing and practice using them to better understand themselves and connect with others. Group norms will emphasize respect, inclusion, and emotional safety so everyone can be themselves and have fun.

When

This group will meet over 8 Saturdays from 11:00 am to 12:30 pm from January 24th – March 14th, 2026.
