LGBTQIA+ individuals face unique challenges that require special attention from therapists with specialized knowledge and expertise. Therapists need to have specialized training and education in order to competently work with LGBTQIA+ clients. This means they should be well-versed in both the mental health challenges faced by this community as well as cultural competency when engaging with them. Qualified therapists can help create a safe therapeutic space for individuals that foster acceptance, understanding, and respect for the client’s identities. Our therapists understand and adhere to the World Professional Association for Transgender Health (WPATH) Standards of Care and participate in Continuing Education courses that are LGBTQIA+ specific on an annual basis.

Our team of counselors offers comprehensive treatment plans designed to help people work through a variety of challenges related to gender and sexuality, such as coming out, transitioning, relationship issues and more.

LGBTQ Therapy and counseling services can be a powerful tool for those who are trying to overcome feelings of isolation, confusion, or shame surrounding their sexuality or gender identity. It can also be a resource for folks who are comfortably in their journey and want individual or group support through the inevitable highs and lows. Many members of the queer community experience greater levels of stress and loneliness than their heterosexual peers – because of something known as ‘minority stress’. There is help available for anyone struggling with any kind of issue related to sexuality or gender identity. Seeking out therapy with a qualified professional who understands both the challenges faced by LGBTQIA+ individuals as well as how they might affect one’s well being can prove invaluable in helping cope and thrive.
