Teen LGBTQIA+ Support Group

Who

Teens in grades 7-12 who identify as LGBTQ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, genderqueer, non-binary, pansexual, and other identities along the spectrums of gender identity and sexual orientation). New group members can join quarterly.

What

A support group for adolescents who identify as LGBTQIA+. Each week the group will focus on a specific topic related to identity development, including areas of social, emotional, and/or physical, and overall health. There will also be general discussion with peer sharing and support.

When

This separate middle school group is not currently meeting. Middle school students in 7th and 8th grade may be able to join the general Teen LGTBQ+ support group for grades 7-12, so please see that group for more information.

Where

This group meets in person at Sentier Psychotherapy:

475 Cleveland Ave. N.
Suite 103
St. Paul, MN 55104

Located in the Merriam Park neighborhood of St. Paul, just north of I-94. Suite 103 is on the main level of the Ivy League Place, and our door is in the southwest corner of the building. A large parking lot is available outside our entrance.

Why

LGBTQ individuals are at increased risk of isolation, mental health issues, substance abuse and addiction, and certain types of trauma. Additionally, LGBTQ youth have limited access to adequate mental health care and supportive services. This group aims to provide the support that is often lacking for LGBTQ adolescents/tweens.

How

If you have a teen who is interested in participating in this group, please email Sarah Souder-Johnson at sjohnson@sentiertherapy.com or call 763.913.8261 to learn more and schedule an intake session. Intake session must be completed one week prior to group starting.

Fees

Group cost is $50 for screening and per group session. Sliding fee available, inquire with therapist. Superbills are provided for all group members and are particularly helpful for those who would like to submit to HSA, flex accounts, or insurance providers for out-of-network reimbursement. Therapist may be able to submit out of network insurance claims if requested following payment.
