Parenting Teens & Young Adults who are Trans or Non-Binary

Who

This group is for parents/guardians who have children in middle and high school and/or adult children who have come out as transgender and/or non-binary.

What

This is a social support group for parents/guardians to get together and talk about what it is like to have a child or young adult child who is transgender or non-binary. The group will allow parents to process, grieve, and learn to support children/adult children who are transitioning. The facilitator will share resources for parents about how to support their child/young adult, how to honor their child’s transition, and how to move forward with transitioning. Group members are welcome to complete one or two quarters of the group or can continue indefinitely as they form a supportive community of parents who share this experience.

When

This group meets on the third Monday of each month from 4:00 – 5:30 pm. New group members can join quarterly. Next quarterly group begins September 16, 2024.

This group meets online.

Why

The purpose of this group is to provide space for parents to talk about their hopes, dreams, wishes, and fears with regard to their children who identify as trans or non-binary. The group provides a community for parents who have a shared or similar experience. Parents who are supported are also more likely to help their children receive the consistent mental health and medical care they need to transition and that prepares children for a successful future.

Fees

Group fee is $40 per family/teen and the group is limited to 8 family units (dual households register as one family unit). Sliding fee available, inquire with therapist for availability. Superbills are provided for all group members and are particularly helpful for those who would like to submit to HSA, flex accounts, or insurance providers for out-of-network reimbursement. Therapist may be able to submit out of network insurance claims if requested following payment.
