DBT Group for Teens

Teen DBT Skills Group

Who

High school students ages 14-18.

What

Sentier offers a supportive DBT (Dialectical Behavior Therapy) Skills group for high school students. This is an 8-week psycho-educational skills group that teaches skills from the DBT modules of core mindfulness, emotion regulation, distress tolerance, and interpersonal effectiveness skills. Please note: This is a skills group and is not an intensive or adherent DBT program. For more information, please see our blog post: What is DBT? This group also contains a parent education component to this group. Guardians are invited to attend three 1-hour parent education classes throughout the course of the group where they will receive an overview of the skills that teens are also learning! Support from the adults in their lives is a key component to the teen’s skill development.

When

This group will meet on Mondays from 4:00 – 6:00 pm from June 3 – July 29, 2024 (skip June 17.)

Three optional parent sessions will be offered; dates to be determined with group members.

Why

Teens benefit from increased coping skills and learning to identify thinking patterns that often lead to extreme emotions, impulsiveness and self-destructive behavior. Group will teach skills that can be used to control thoughts, regulate big emotions, tolerate distress, and effectively communicate with others.

How

Please email our Client Care Coordinator at [email protected] or call 763.913.8261 to schedule a group Intake session at least one week prior to the start date.

Fees

The intake is $50 and each teen group session is $100. Parent sessions are $50 per teen/family unit. There is a one time $50 materials fee for the DBT skills binder and other group materials. Sliding fee scale available, please inquire with therapist.

Clients are charged for missed sessions, as group attendance is critical. Superbills are provided for all group members and are particularly helpful for those who would like to submit to HSA, flex accounts, or insurance providers for out-of-network reimbursement. Therapist may be able to submit out of network insurance claims if requested following payment.

*Please note that this is not a full, DBT intensive program. The group does not include individual weekly therapy with a DBT therapist or phone coaching calls between sessions. This is a psychoeducational group that has been condensed into 8 weeks and does not cover every DBT skill.
