Welcome to the Sentier team, Abby Voigt!
We are thrilled to welcome Abby Voigt, MSW, LICSW to our team of providers at Sentier! To help our communities learn a bit more about her, we asked Abby a few questions.
Sentier: How did you decide to become a therapist?
Abby: I worked in social services in case management roles after finishing my undergraduate degree. It was in those roles that I became aware of the impact of mental health and trauma on life situations. I wanted to be able to be more helpful in those situations and decided to go back to school to have a more clinical role.
S: Who do you love working with, and what excites you about working with those populations?
A: I genuinely enjoy working with many different populations. I really appreciate being able to hear and learn from different perspectives and life experiences. That being said, I have had the most experience in working with adolescents, LGBTQ folks, and recent immigrants and refugees.
S: How would you spend a free day?
A: I would say hiking. I love being outside and getting into nature. I would likely find a state park that had a good hiking trail and try to get a little lost.
S: You’re getting takeout. What’s your meal of choice?
A: Anything Thai. If I had to pick a specific dish, probably papaya salad with sticky rice or pad krapow.
S: What is your favorite method of self care?
A: I try to be present. So, I don’t have any specific activity, I just try to do whatever I am doing and be extra present to it. I attempt to minimize multi-tasking and try to be mindful of the space that I am in.
S: What are your professional goals for the next year?
A: My goal for this next year is to build a foundation here at Sentier. I am looking to build a caseload and also allow space where I can take care of myself and learn in a way that makes me a better therapist for the people that I meet with.
